Relaxation & Sedation

While many dental offices purport a claim of “sedation dentistry”, we are one only four or five dental practices in Illinois with a formal training background in Anesthesiology, with accompanying credentials and licensing.

We also serve as a referral resource for other dentists who encounter difficulties with their patients such as hyperactive gag reflex, difficulty with local anesthesia, medically complex individuals, and of course, fear and anxiety.

As such, we are able to offer a host of services to our patients in order to make your experience comfortable and worry-free.  These include:

Headphones—relax while listening to some music.

Video Glasses—watch a movie during your dental treatment!

Nitrous Oxide—sometimes referred to as “laughing gas”, is a very safe and effective sedation modality.  Its chief advantage over drugs is that has no lasting side-effects after it is turned off, so that you can drive home by yourself.

Oral Sedation—sedatives taken as a pill or liquid.  Can also be used in combination with nitrous oxide, but requires a ride to and from our office.  Oral sedation provides for long lasting relaxation for before, during, and after your dental appointment.

IV Sedation—also known as “twilight sleep.”  It is available for all types of procedures for patients who are very anxious.  IV sedation provided in our office is similar to what you would receive in a hospital operating room, as we monitor EKG (heart), respiration, blood oxygen saturation, and blood pressure.  Patients must have no food or drink after midnight preceding your appointment, and you must have someone to drive you to our office and home again.  For more information please speak to Dr. Provenzale, Jr.
